With the unique location of the site being inside the City of Houston city limits, and the drainage conveying to a Harris CountyFlood Control Ditch, the complexity of coordinating between the two governing entities was challenging.
Prior to the start of design, our office had a pre-development meeting with both agencies to ensure that each review board was aware of the project, its tight schedule, and determination to be cost effective. Civil design consisted of placing the site within the vast acreage while providing limited disruption of the beautiful forest of onsite trees. Using Civil 3D modeling, we were able to use all onsite dirt spoils to build the sanctuary up above the base flood elevation, with enough dirt spoils to create a perimeter of berms for a more topographically appealing finish.
Located on 25.860 acres of heavily wooded land in north Houston, this church was called to expand its sanctuary to spread the good word to all residents within the local area.
